Laura Shen is a nonresident senior fellow in both the Indo-Pacific Security Initiative at the Atlantic Council’s Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security as well as the Economic Statecraft Initiative housed within the GeoEconomics Center. Shen is the executive vice president of Growth at Code Metal, an artificial intelligence company accelerating mission-critical software and hardware development at defense and industrial companies. From 2021 to 2023, Shen was director for China on the National Security Council, where she was responsible for US economic and technology policy toward China, as well as a senior advisor for international economics. For nearly ten years, Shen also served at the US Department of the Treasury in a range of roles. Shen has worked in management consulting and finance, at Uber Technologies, and in the US Senate.
Shen holds an AB from Princeton University, an MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and an MA from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.
