East AsiaMay Ang Hwee Mei was a visiting fellow with the Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security at the Atlantic Council. Prior to her this role, Ang served as assistant director in the communications department of Singapore’s Ministry of Defence, where she was responsible for developing engagements with international partners related to strategic communications. She also held various appointments within the Ministry to build Singaporeans’ commitment to defense, including managing the annual Total Defence (Singapore’s whole-of-society national defense concept) campaign, supporting the launch of Digital Defence, and raising awareness of threats from the digital domain, such as information threats and cyberattacks.
Ang was also attached to the Permanent Mission of Singapore to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Jakarta, Indonesia, where she represented Singapore and negotiated statements that ASEAN leaders and partners adopted at the ASEAN Summit in 2022.
Ang has a Bachelor of Arts in economics from the National University of Singapore and a Master of Science in public relations and corporate communication from New York University.
