AfricaSarah A. Daly is a nonresident senior fellow with the Atlantic Council’s Africa Center, specializing in African geopolitics, security, and emerging technologies. Her work focuses on violent extremism, foreign influence, natural resource exploitation, democracy and governance, and artificial intelligence (AI), with particular expertise on Russia’s activities in Africa and Salafi-jihadist groups in East Africa.
Prior to joining the Africa Center, Daly was a researcher at the Institute for Defense Analyses, where she supported research and capacity-building initiatives across Africa and contributed to pioneering work on the ethical, legal, and societal implications of AI. She also completed a rotation in the Office of the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for African Affairs, where she served as regional director for coastal West Africa.
Earlier in her career, Daly was a Fulbright fellow in Argentina and worked as a teacher and program manager for the Kenya Scholar-Access Program. She holds an MA in African studies from Yale University and a BA in history and English from Amherst College.
