On November 1, IPSI nonresident senior fellow Tom Cynkin was interviewed by Voice of America Korea to provide counterarguments against a joint report by the RAND Corporation and Asan Institute for Policy Studies, which called for the redeployment of US tactical nuclear weapons to the Korean Peninsula to help prevent North Korean nuclear threats. He argues that Washington has “gone to great lengths, especially through the Washington Declaration, to demonstrate that there’s a seamless web of deterrence and the US nuclear umbrella is unaffected by any other developments.”
