From 2001 to 2014, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) was the NATO-led security mission to Afghanistan. All twenty-nine NATO Allies and twenty-two partner nations contributed forces, whose primary mission was to enable Afghanistan’s security forces to provide effective security across the country and to help the Afghan people rebuild.
