Description
The Atlantic Council’s Millennium Leadership Program (MLP) cultivates a new generationof connected andempoweredglobal leaders to tackle unprecedented global challenges. Our team develops and implements leadership programs with unique international convenings spanning from Guatemala, Taiwan, Malaysia, and beyond. We work with global rising stars from the private, public, and nonprofit sectors through our three programmatic pillars: leadership, community, and impact.
Currently, the MLP runs a range of international leadership programs including its flagship Millennium Fellowship, Millennium Leadership Intensive, European Leadership Accelerator, and the Young Global Professional Program in partnership with the HR team. We are also shoring up alumni activities throughout the year and planning for a two-day international conference at the Atlantic Council’s Headquarters in Washington, DC in October 2026.
As our team’s full-time intern, you will provide important logistical, administrative, writing, and operational support to the Program. Our team is small and has a significant global impact. Our work is all-hands-on-deck, and we encourage interns to actively engage with all elements of our work. This is a great “generalist” position for someone with an extraordinary attention to detail, an ability to handle ambiguity in a dynamic environment, and a passion for producing quality work outputs. You will also experience a great deal of learning through our leadership trainings with multiple executive-level trainers alongside our participants. Interns are encouraged to participate in and attend events hosted by other programs at the Atlantic Council.
This role will expose the candidate to think tank and program operations, including logistical elements of virtual and in-person event planning, program implementation and evaluation, and travel logistics coordination. The intern will also gain hands-on experience in marketing, communications, and social media management; data management, tracking, and reporting; and administrative support, including scheduling, financial reporting, and receipt tracking for both domestic and international programs.
The successful candidate will have a passion for work in a cross-cultural setting and an entrepreneurial ethos, while also being a diligent and conscientious team player. Demonstrated interest in international affairs through classwork or experience is preferred.
This internship is based in our Washington, DC headquarters. Candidates must be available to work in-person throughout the duration of the program. Interns will be paid at a rate of $18.00 per hour.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive administrative and operational support to the Program, including scheduling, data tracking, document production, and coordination of meetings and program activities.
- Take detailed notes at team meetings and events and provide clear summaries for internal reference.
- Assist with virtual and in-person event management, including planning, logistics, and participant coordination. Support Zoom facilitation (breakout rooms, tech setup) and logistical and administrative support for domestic and international events, trainings, and study tours.
- Support travel logistics, including itinerary development, booking coordination, and expense tracking for staff and participants.
- Manage application downloading, organization, and data maintenance for participants and program activities.
- Contribute to financial management tasks, such as tracking receipts, preparing reports, and supporting timely processing of reimbursements and expenses.
- Support communications and outreach efforts, including managing social media platforms, drafting web and promotional content, and coordinating publication processes for long-form pieces.
- Assist with program implementation and evaluation, including survey design, data collection, metrics tracking, and preparation of monitoring and evaluation materials.
- Participate in proposal writing, research, and other content development as assigned.
- Perform other administrative and logistical tasks as needed to ensure smooth program operations.
Qualifications
- Graduate student or recent college graduate in international affairs, political science, public policy, communications, international education, or a related field.
- Demonstrated interest in international affairs, particularly in foreign policy, communications, or international exchange.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with initiative, curiosity, and a problem-solving mindset.
- Strong research, writing, and analytical abilities.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational, planning, and time management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with WordPress, Canva, Salesforce, Monday.com, or similar platforms preferred.
- Professional demeanor and customer service orientation when engaging with colleagues and partners in the U.S. and abroad.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States and available to work full-time, in person (40 hours per week) at the Washington, DC office.
