Nigeria

Nigeria is Africa’s economic powerhouse whose 190 million population is Africa’s largest and could double by 2050. The country is ethnically diverse and majority Muslim, despite a sizeable Christian population. A top oil producer, Nigeria’s early post-independence history was marred by a civil war and decades of military rule, yet multi-party democracy has been cemented over the last two decades. Security challenges persist, posed by armed groups in the Niger Delta and by Boko Haram in the country’s northeast.
