To continue building upon two decades of bilateral cooperation, Colombia and the United States must navigate an increasingly complex set of challenges, as well as opportunities for new ideas and innovative solutions.

In “Voces de impacto: Conversations with US and Colombian leaders and changemakers,” the Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center (AALAC) is sitting down with US and Colombian thought leaders and change agents to discuss their impactful work and creative solutions for communities and territories across Colombia.

The series focuses on three key themes for creating a positive, constructive framework for engagement between Colombia and the United States:

Colombia recently introduced the government’s new security and drug strategy as peace negotiations with the National Liberation Army (ELN) and other armed groups continue. Efforts to implement the 2016 peace accord are still underway. We sit down with peacebuilding experts to discuss their work, provide independent and honest assessments on the implementation of the accords, and offer insights for how the 2016 process can be adapted for current peacebuilding efforts.

Colombia stands out for its prioritization of a climate agenda alongside climate adaptation mechanisms. Sharing best practices on building climate-resilient communities provides an opportunity to advance bilateral collaboration and exchange examples with countries across the broader region. We speak with climate and sustainability experts about their initiatives and how their organizations are creating innovative solutions for a more sustainable future in Colombia.

Both the peace and climate-resilience agendas require significant resources to ensure success, which requires both a sustainable financing structure and continued economic development. We bring experts together to discuss innovative financing mechanisms including environmental, social, and governance (ESG) financing; support from international financial institutions; and the private sector’s role in supporting and sustaining a positive investment climate.
