The Atlantic Council, in partnership with the Ministry of Energy of the United Arab Emirates, ADNOC, Mubadala, and IPIC, is proud to launch a new flagship initiative, the Global Energy Forum in Abu Dhabi. Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the forum is part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, an initiative by the Abu Dhabi Government, hosted by Masdar, and aimed at encouraging dialogue and action to address some of the globe’s most pressing sustainable development challenges.
The Atlantic Council will convene the inaugural forum on January 12-13, 2017, ahead of the International Renewable Energy Agency’s Annual Assembly (January 14-15) and the World Future Energy Summit (January 16-19).
The forum will concentrate on the geopolitics and geo-economics of the energy transformation. It will consider the role that oil, gas, nuclear, and renewables will play in supplying the world’s growing energy needs in the context of global political and security challenges. It will also examine disruptive trends in energy systems, technologies, and markets. In 2017, we will focus on three key themes: the implications of the US elections for the global security and energy space; emerging energy market trends; and breakthrough energy technologies.
Held in the United Arab Emirates, a key player in both traditional and new energy sources and a driver in regional and global transformation, the forum will bring together leading policy-makers and business leaders from around the world to discuss the most effective ways to strengthen energy markets, advance new technologies, and foster climate action.
