Please join the Atlantic Council’s Transatlantic Security Initiative, in the Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security, for a conversation with H.E. Mikko Hautala, Ambassador of Finland to the United States and H.E. Karin Olofsdotter, Ambassador of Sweden to the United States. This event will take place on Thursday, July 21, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. EDT virtually via Zoom.

Russia’s illegal and unprovoked war has changed the discourse around transatlantic security, and Sweden and Finland have responded by taking the historic step of applying to join the NATO Alliance. Both strong bilateral partners of the United States, Sweden and Finland would bring modern capabilities and new opportunities in strengthening the European security architecture. To discuss these implications and the future of security in Europe, the Council is excited to welcome Ambassadors Hautala and Olofsdotter for a conversation on how Sweden and Finland are conceptualizing their role in transatlantic defense as future NATO allies.

The Transatlantic Security Initiative, in the Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security, shapes and influences the debate on the greatest security challenges facing the North Atlantic Alliance and its key partners.
