On September 23 at 1:30 p.m. ET, the Atlantic Council’s Africa Center hosted the Africa Energy Forum on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly session in New York.
In the United States, President Donald Trump is shifting US foreign policy and pursuing both an “America first” agenda and a major overhaul in the energy space. Meanwhile, Africa still faces the world’s most acute energy access challenge, with over six hundred million people still lacking electricity. At the same time, the continent contributes less than 4 percent of global emissions. With Africa home to immense gas resources, and the recognition of gas as an important source of fuel for the energy transition, all eyes are on the new administration.
The Africa Energy Forum, the Africa Center’s flagship event, is part of the center’s Critical Minerals Task Force.
This event is part of our #ACinNY series, happening on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. See the rest of the line-up and register for more events here.
