On Monday, November 10, at 10 a.m. ET, the Atlantic Council’s Global China Hub and Europe Center will launch a report by Global China Hub Nonresident Fellow Zoltán Fehér and Europe Center Nonresident Senior Fellow Valbona Zeneli which analyzes the geopolitical dynamics shaping Europe’s evolving approach to China and argues that the EU’s shifting stance could help lay the foundation for a more coherent and durable transatlantic strategy.
EU-China tensions remain high following Beijing’s rare-earth export restrictions, trade frictions, and other irritants. The European Commission is reportedly preparing trade measures to counter the Chinese move on rare earths, raising broader questions about what a coordinated transatlantic approach toward Beijing might look like.
This event will address whether—following China’s most recent rare-earth moves, Europe’s growing auto sector challenges, and US and EU high-level summits with China—transatlantic views are moving toward something like alignment.
