Please join the Atlantic Council’s Global Energy Center and Cyber Statecraft Initiative on Friday, October 4, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. for a public panel discussion on the increasing threat of cyber attacks targeting energy infrastructure and the utility industry’s ability to protect grid assets with cybersecurity technologies and strategies.
Cyber attacks have become a leading threat to the security and reliability of the utility sector and energy infrastructure globally. This growing threat warrants a deep dive into the challenges of cyber readiness in the utilities sector, and the potential policy and technical solutions needed to ensure the safety and security of energy infrastructure. A panel of experts from across the energy and cyber security sectors will discuss how attackers seek to exploit key vulnerabilities in energy infrastructure, including common security gaps that exist in utilities’ operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT), and how policymakers, the utility industry, and cyber security experts can work together to address these challenges.
The panel will feature a discussion surrounding a new report released in conjunction with the event by Siemens and the Ponemon Institute, which seeks to shed light on how the global utility sector perceives its cyber vulnerabilities, assesses its readiness to meet future attacks, and the solutions they can implement to enhance operational security moving forward.
This event is on-the-record and open to the media.
