What would American foreign policy be under a future Republican president? With former US President Donald Trump the presumptive Republican nominee in the November 2024 presidential election, many foreign policy observers wonder what a second Trump presidency would mean for the United States and the world. What would be his policy toward NATO and Ukraine? Will Republicans on the Hill pass legislation approving aid for Ukraine, Taiwan, and Israel? How would the strategy for China change?
Please join the Atlantic Council’s Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security and Freedom and Prosperity Center on Wednesday, March 20 at 4:00 p.m. ET for a discussion on the future of Republican foreign policy with Matthew Kroenig, Vice President and Senior Director of the Scowcroft Center; Dan Negrea, Senior Director of the Freedom and Prosperity Center; Amb. Gina Abercrombie-Winstanley, Nonresident Senior Fellow with the Scowcroft Center and Scowcroft Middle East Security Initiative; and Elisabeth Braw, Senior Fellow with the Transatlantic Security Initiative, moderated by Morgan Ortagus, former US State Department Spokesperson. Fred Kempe, Atlantic Council CEO and President, and Congressman Mike Gallagher will deliver remarks.
This event will also serve as an opportunity to launch a new book by Atlantic Council experts Matthew Kroenig and Dan Negrea, We Win, They Lose: Republican Foreign Policy and the New Cold War. The book’s title originates from a quote by Ronald Reagan on his policy toward the Soviet Union during the Cold War, “We win, and they lose,” and the authors argue that this should be the goal of the United States and allies and partners in the new struggle with China. The book represents the views of the authors and does not necessarily represent the views of the Atlantic Council as an organization.
A 5:00 p.m. reception and book signing with the authors will follow the conversation. Copies of the book will be available for purchase on site.
This public event is open to the press and will take place in-person at the Atlantic Council and via livestream.
This event is part of the Atlantic Council’s election year programming for 2024. Stay tuned for an event on the future of Democratic foreign policy and other events on topics related to the 2024 election.
