Amanda Thorpe is a nonresident senior fellow with the Atlantic Council’s Europe Center, where she focuses on the Western Balkans and Congressional engagement.
Thorpe previously worked as a senior advisor for US Senator Peter F. Welch (D-VT), after serving as the senator’s national security advisor in her previous position. She has worked for the US Congress since 2005, including as the military/appropriations legislative assistant for Congressman C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger (D-MD-02). She worked for twelve years as a professional staff member for the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, including as the Defense Intelligence and Warfighter Support Subcommittee staff director.
Thorpe holds a Bachelor of Science in political science from Weber State University and a Master of Arts in strategic security studies from the National Defense University. She is the recipient of the Army Meritorious Public Service Award and the Office of Strategic Services Society Congressional Gold Medal.
