Amanda Thorpe is a nonresident senior fellow with the Atlantic Council’s Europe Center, where she focuses on the Western Balkans and Congressional strategy.
Thorpe previously worked as national security advisor and senior advisor for US Senator Peter F. Welch (D-VT). She began working for the US Congress in 2005 as the military/appropriations legislative assistant for Congressman C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger (D-MD-02). She worked for twelve years as a professional staff member for the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, including as the staff director for the Defense Intelligence and Warfighter Support Subcommittee.
Thorpe holds a Bachelor of Science in political science from Weber State University and a Master of Arts in strategic security studies from the National Defense University. She is the recipient of the Army Meritorious Public Service Award and the Office of Strategic Services Society Congressional Gold Medal. Thorpe is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
