Safwan Al-Amin is a nonresident senior fellow with the Iraq Initiative in the Atlantic Council’s Middle East programs. Al-Amin is a partner in the law firm of Holland & Knight and his practice focuses on complex disputes, transnational business transactions, and regulatory compliance. He also advises governments in the Middle East on public policy and legislative and regulatory reform.
He has represented corporate and governmental clients on cross-border transactions
matters and provides strategic counsel on international legal matters. Safwan regularly
publishes commentary on legal and constitutional issues in Iraq and contributes to policy discussions on rule of law and institutional reform. He is also a visiting professor of law at the American University of Iraq – Sulaimani.
He holds an LLB in Law from SOAS, University of London, a Master’s in Public
Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School, and an LLM from Yale Law School with a focus on international and comparative constitutional law. He is licensed to practice law in Iraq, New York, and the District of Columbia.
