Italy
A founding member state of both NATO and the EU, Italy has been a key member of the transatlantic alliance for the past seventy years. In recent years, battered by a migration crisis and beset with economic difficulties, Italy saw the success of far left and far right movements. Despite these challenges, Italy remains a critical member of the transatlantic community and its resilience will be vital to a cohesive strategy toward Europe’s Southern neighborhood.
