Alyona Getmanchuk is a nonresident senior fellow at the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center. She is the founder and director of the New Europe Center, a foreign policy-focused think tank based in Kyiv. She previously spent eight years as founder and director of the Institute of World Policy. Her research interests include Ukraine-NATO relations, Ukraine’s bilateral relations with Western countries, and regional security.
Getmanchuk’s journalistic experience spans fifteen years of work as an international policy observer and editor. She has written for Ukrainian and foreign media outlets including the New York Times, Politico, Financial Times, the International Herald Tribune, Warsaw’s Gazeta Wyborcza, and the Moscow Times. Getmanchuk is a longtime contributor to Kyiv’s influential Dzerkalo Tyzhnia newspaper and maintains a regular column for the popular Ukrainian news outlet Ukrayinska Pravda.
In 2017, she received a state award for her work in furthering Ukraine’s European integration process and has been a member of the Ukraine-Poland Presidential Advisory Committee since 2016. Getmanchuk graduated from the Institute of Journalism at Taras Shevchenko State University in Kyiv with a degree in international journalism.
