Ethiopia is East Africa’s most populous nation, with over 100 million residents. It is in the top tier of African economies and its capital plays host to the African Union. Ethiopia has often played a leading role in mediating conflict in the Horn of Africa but is not immune to challenges of its own: recurring drought and famine, difficult Ethio-Eritrean relations, and ethnic tensions. While these difficulties remain, there is optimism on reform efforts.
