On December 13, 2021, Pepe Zhang was quoted in a Financial Times article, “Taiwan ally Guatemala fends off Beijing overtures.”
“Taiwanese allies . . . will need to weigh the cost and benefit of their relations with Taiwan, the US and China,” Zhang noted. “Guatemala at the moment sees greater benefit in keeping ties with Taiwan . . . but we shall see if this continues to hold.”
