But the manipulation of this patriotism by actors seeking to undo international cooperation, weaken their neighbors, and foment conflict is a dangerous force that threatens peace and stability globally. Rather than exploiting these nationalist narratives, policy makers should pursue common sense partnerships between societies on the basis of mutual trust and respect.
