United States and Canada

The United States has enjoyed an unparalleled period of peace and prosperity since the end of the Second World War, due to its construction of a rules-based international order and maintenance of close alliances and partnerships. Canada has been a key partner for the United States, both due to their close economic links and their shared border, the world’s longest at 5,525 miles. Canada is also a key NATO ally for the United States and is active in international diplomacy around the world.

Obama Gives Britain the Cold Shoulder

By the Wall Street Journal

From the Economist: [T]he black hole in NATO’s security guarantee is that it has no formal contingency plans to defend its weakest members: the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. If Russia is NATO’s friend—so the thinking went in the early years of this decade—no such plans are necessary. America has its own military […]

Amb. Hunter: “they want to keep the United States… as a European power”

By the Council on Foreign Relations

From the Council on Foreign Relations: Everybody in Europe understands that managing the future of Russia in regard to Europe can only be done with American engagement and, yes, to a great extent, American leadership. And they want to keep the United States equally engaged in Europe as a European power, not just as an […]

The U.S.-Europe Partnership Under the Obama Administration

By the Department of State

From the Department of State: I am certainly aware that some have suggested that the centrality of the relationship between the United States and Europe has somehow diminished as a result of the many far-flung, global challenges the United States is facing today and the simultaneous rise of new powers. In my opinion, this view […]

Vaclac Havel on the Role of Russia in Central Europe

By Foreign Policy

From Foreign Policy: I think that America has not forgotten us, but it should still take into account that the terrain here in Central Europe is somewhat more explosive than other areas of conflict elsewhere in the world. World wars start here, not in Iran or Korea or anywhere else. But I have not yet […]
